Erzsébet Báthori, more commonly known as Countess Elizabeth Bathory or the Blood Countess, is a woman with a troubled history to say the least.

She was a noble woman in the late 1500's/early 1600's from the Kingdom of Hungary, now Slovakia. She was either the most prolific female killer of all time or the victim of a vicious smear campaign, a mystery that may never be solved. It is said that she tortured and killed women and girls, particularly virgins, so that she could bathe in their blood and remain youthful. Her alleged body count is wildly inconsistent, the highest being 650.
.
Did she really do these things? No idea. She has inspired legends and lore for hundreds of years and inspired me to make this set. I saw these beads at Joann’s, and they called out to me. I couldn’t believe they would carry something like this since all I could see was… blood. It reminded me of blood on tile. Blood on a bathtub. It wasn’t the biggest leap, but I couldn’t see anything else. So, with the splattered glass beads, opaque red 4mm Swarovski crystal bicones, .018 flex wire, and sterling silver findings, I created what I thought was reminiscent of the butcher herself and her sadistic crimes.
